How to get a UAE tourist visa

Most tourists can get a UAE visa on arrival for $27-82 or apply online beforehand. EU, US, UK, and many other nationals get free 30-day visas on arrival. Others need to apply through airlines or visa services before travel.

  1. Check if you need a visa. Citizens from 71 countries (including US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia) get free 30-day visas on arrival. Check the UAE government's official visa exemption list on ica.gov.ae. If your country isn't listed, you need to apply beforehand.
  2. Choose your application method. Apply online through the official GDRFA Dubai website ($82 for 30-day tourist visa) or through your airline (Emirates, Etihad, flydubai offer visa services for $27-60). Airlines are usually cheaper and faster.
  3. Gather required documents. You need: passport valid for 6+ months, passport photo, flight bookings, hotel reservation, bank statement showing $1,000+ balance. Some nationalities need additional documents like invitation letters.
  4. Submit your application. Online applications take 3-5 working days. Airline applications process in 2-3 days. Pay by credit card. You'll receive the visa via email as a PDF.
  5. Print and travel. Print your visa (color preferred) and carry it with your passport. Immigration officers will stamp your passport on arrival. The visa is valid for 60 days from issue date, allowing 30-day stays.
