How to Get Kenya Visas for Families with Children
All family members including infants need individual Kenya eVisas, costing $51 each for most nationalities. Apply online 7-14 days before travel, as children cannot be added to parent visas and each person needs separate documentation.
- Check if your family needs visas. Most nationalities need visas for Kenya. Check the Kenya eVisa portal - citizens of Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and a few others don't need visas. Everyone else does, including infants.
- Gather documents for each family member. Each person needs: passport valid 6+ months with 2 blank pages, passport photo (white background), return flight booking, hotel booking or invitation letter. Children need their own passports - they cannot travel on parent passports.
- Apply online for each person separately. Go to evisa.go.ke. Create one account but submit separate applications for each family member. You cannot add children to adult applications. Select 'Single Entry Tourist Visa' for each person.
- Pay $51 per person. Each visa costs $51 USD regardless of age, including babies. Pay by credit card online. Processing fee is included. Keep payment receipts.
- Wait 7-14 days for approval. Check application status daily on the portal. Approved visas arrive by email as PDF documents. Print all visas - you need physical copies at the airport.
- Present documents at Nairobi airport. Show printed visa approval, passport, return ticket, and hotel booking for each family member. Immigration officers may ask children basic questions about the trip.
- Can I add my baby to my visa application?
- No. Every person including infants needs their own separate visa application and payment of $51. Babies need their own passports too.
- How long does family visa processing take?
- 7-14 days for most nationalities. Family applications don't get priority, so apply early. Check status daily on the portal as approval emails sometimes go to spam.
- What if my child's passport expires during the trip?
- All passports must be valid for 6+ months from entry date. Renew children's passports before applying for visas. Kenya immigration will deny entry with soon-to-expire passports.
- Can we get visas on arrival with kids?
- Visa on arrival was discontinued in 2024. All visitors must have eVisas before travel. This actually makes family travel easier as you handle everything online ahead of time.
