How to Get an East Africa Tourist Visa
The East Africa Tourist Visa costs $100 and covers Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda for 90 days. Apply online through any of the three countries' official portals, upload required documents, and receive your visa within 5-7 business days.
- Choose your entry point country. Apply through Kenya (ecitizen.go.ke), Uganda (visas.immigration.go.ug), or Rwanda (irembo.gov.rw). It doesn't matter which - the visa works for all three countries.
- Gather required documents. You need: passport valid for 6+ months, recent passport photo, travel itinerary showing visits to at least 2 of the 3 countries, proof of accommodation for first night, and return flight ticket.
- Complete the online application. Fill out the form completely. Upload clear, color scans of all documents. Double-check that your passport photo meets the 2x2 inch requirement with white background.
- Pay the visa fee. Pay $100 USD online using Visa or Mastercard. Keep the payment confirmation - you'll need the reference number.
- Wait for processing. Normal processing takes 5-7 business days. You'll get an email when it's ready. Download and print the visa approval letter.
- Enter at the designated border. Present your printed approval letter, passport, and return ticket at immigration. The officer will stamp your passport with the 90-day multiple-entry visa.
- Can I extend the East Africa visa?
- No extensions are possible. You must leave the region after 90 days and apply for a new visa if you want to return.
- What if I only want to visit one country?
- You still pay $100 for the regional visa, but you can apply for individual country visas instead (Kenya $51, Uganda $50, Rwanda $30) if you're certain you won't cross borders.
- Do I need yellow fever vaccination?
- Yes, yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry to all three countries. Carry your yellow card - immigration will check it.
- Can I enter through any border crossing?
- You must enter through designated ports of entry: major airports and specific land borders. Check the visa approval letter for the complete list of valid entry points.
