Getting from the Airport to Your Accommodation
Check the airport's official website 48 hours before departure to identify the most reliable transit link, whether it be an express train, bus, or ride-share app. Always verify if your destination requires cash in local currency for transport, as some machines or shuttle drivers may not accept cards.
- Identify your transit options. Go to the airport's website and look for 'Ground Transportation.' Note the options: dedicated train lines, official shuttle buses, or authorized taxi ranks.
- Map your exact stop. Input your accommodation address into Google Maps or Citymapper. Toggle to 'Transit' mode to see which specific station or bus stop is closest to your front door.
- Secure local currency. If taking a bus or regional train, withdraw the equivalent of $30 in local cash from an airport ATM. Do not exchange cash at currency kiosks; their rates are significantly worse than ATM withdrawals.
- Verify ride-share availability. Open Uber, Lyft, or your destination's local equivalent (like Grab or Bolt) while still in the arrival hall. Check the 'Pickup Point' instructions, as many airports have specific zones for ride-shares that are different from taxi ranks.
- Should I book a private transfer in advance?
- Only if you have a lot of luggage, are traveling with a group of 4+, or are arriving at an airport known for aggressive taxi touts. Otherwise, public transit or app-based rides are usually cheaper.
- What do I do if my flight is delayed until late at night?
- Check if your chosen train or bus line runs 24/7. If it doesn't, skip the stress and budget for a pre-booked car service or a licensed airport taxi.
