Planning a Family Weekend in Seattle
Focus your two days on the Seattle Center and the waterfront to minimize transit time with kids. Prioritize walking and the Monorail to navigate the dense urban core without the headache of parking.
- Book centrally. Stay in the Belltown or Lower Queen Anne neighborhoods. You will be within walking distance of the Space Needle, MoPOP, and the waterfront, saving you hours of transit time.
- Purchase a CityPASS. If you plan on doing the Space Needle and the Aquarium, buy a CityPASS. It saves about 40% on entry fees and allows you to skip the standard ticket lines.
- Use the Monorail. Don't drive between downtown and Seattle Center. Park your car at your hotel and take the historic Monorail; it’s a 2-minute ride that kids love and it drops you right in the heart of the action.
- Time your Pike Place visit. Get to Pike Place Market before 9:00 AM on Saturday or Sunday. After 10:30 AM, the aisles become too crowded to navigate comfortably with strollers or small children.
- Is a car necessary?
- No. A car is actually a burden due to high parking fees (often 40-50 USD/night) and limited street parking.
- What if it rains?
- Seattleites rarely use umbrellas. If you want to blend in, stick to high-quality rain jackets with hoods.
