How to see Riyadh in 4 days
Spend your first two days exploring the historic Diriyah and Masmak districts, then dedicate the remaining two days to modern landmarks like the Sky Bridge and desert excursions. The key is to schedule your outdoor activities for the early morning or evening to avoid extreme heat.
- Get a Visitor Visa. Apply for an e-Visa online via the official Saudi eVisa portal at least 3 days before your flight. It costs approximately $145 and usually arrives via email within 24 hours.
- Use Ride-Hailing Apps. Do not rely on walking or hailing taxis on the street. Download Uber or Careem immediately; they are the standard, reliable, and affordable ways to get between districts.
- Respect Dress Codes. While the abaya is no longer legally required for foreign women, dress modestly by covering shoulders and knees. Men should avoid sleeveless shirts and shorts in public spaces.
- Plan for Prayer Times. Be aware that many shops and malls close briefly for 20-30 minutes during the five daily prayer times. Check a local prayer app to avoid being caught outside a closed shop.
- Is alcohol allowed in Riyadh?
- No. Saudi Arabia has a zero-tolerance policy regarding alcohol. Do not attempt to bring it into the country.
- Do I need to tip?
- Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. 10% is standard in restaurants if a service charge is not already included.
