How to Spend 4 Days in Lisbon
Four days gives you time to explore Lisbon's historic neighborhoods, ride the iconic trams, and take a day trip to Sintra. Focus on Alfama and Bairro Alto the first two days, then Belém and modern Lisbon, with Sintra on your final day.
- Plan your neighborhood order. Start with Alfama (Day 1) for the historic core, then Bairro Alto and Chiado (Day 2) for culture and nightlife. Day 3 covers Belém for monuments and modern areas like LX Factory. Day 4 is your Sintra day trip.
- Get a Lisboa Card for days 1-3. Buy a 72-hour Lisboa Card for €21. Covers public transport, museum entry, and discounts. Don't use it on Day 4 since you'll be in Sintra most of the day.
- Book Sintra transport early. Reserve the Sintra train tickets online or buy them the night before. Trains leave from Rossio station every 20 minutes, takes 40 minutes. Last train back is around 11pm.
- Download offline maps. Lisbon's hills and winding streets can confuse GPS. Download offline maps for the city center and mark key tram stops: Martim Moniz, Rossio, and Cais do Sodré.
- Is 4 days enough for Lisbon?
- Yes, 4 days covers the main sights and includes a Sintra day trip. You'll see the historic center, experience the culture, and have time for some relaxation.

- Is Lisbon safe for solo travelers?
- Very safe. Normal city precautions apply - watch for pickpockets in tourist areas and on Tram 28. The city is well-lit and people are friendly.
- When do restaurants open for dinner?
- Most restaurants open at 7:30pm for dinner, but locals typically eat after 8:30pm. Many kitchens close by 11pm.
