Planning an Argentina Trip with Kids

Focus on two major hubs rather than trying to cross the entire country to avoid travel fatigue. Spend 5 days in Buenos Aires for city parks and museums, then 4 days in Puerto Iguazú for the waterfalls and jungle wildlife.

  1. Limit your transit. Domestic flights in Argentina can have significant delays. Keep your itinerary to two, maximum three, regions. Use internal flights between major hubs instead of overnight buses.
  2. Adjust your internal clock. Argentine culture revolves around late dinners. Most restaurants don't open for dinner until 8:00 PM. Plan for a 'merienda' (snack) around 5:00 PM to tide kids over.
  3. Book domestic flights in advance. Use Aerolíneas Argentinas or Flybondi to connect major hubs. Book at least 6 weeks out to secure seats together for the family.
  4. Use public transport in cities. In Buenos Aires, use the Subte (subway) and Uber. Skip renting a car in the city; traffic is chaotic and parking is non-existent.
Are taxis safe with car seats?
Car seats are not standard in Argentine taxis. If you require them, book a private 'remis' service in advance and specify that you need child safety seats.
Is the water safe to drink?
Tap water is generally safe in Buenos Aires, but it is recommended to stick to bottled or filtered water in rural areas like Iguazú.
