How to Pack Using Packing Cubes Like a Pro
Packing cubes turn a chaotic suitcase into a filing cabinet for your clothes. Use them by grouping items by category or outfit, rolling your garments to save space, and compressing the air out before zipping them shut.
- Sort by Category. Don't just throw clothes in. Sort them into piles: tops, bottoms, undergarments, and socks. Assign one cube size to each category to keep things organized.
- The Rolling Technique. Roll each garment tightly. Place them side-by-side inside the cube like logs in a rack. Do not fold, as folding creates air pockets and wrinkles.
- Max Out the Space. If you have a compression cube, fill it, zip it halfway, and press down firmly on the top while you zip the second, smaller zipper. This squeezes out excess air.
- Tetris Your Suitcase. Place your heaviest, square-shaped cubes at the bottom near the suitcase wheels. Fill the gaps between cubes with odd-shaped items like shoes or extra chargers.
- Should I roll or fold?
- Always roll. It prevents creases and allows you to see every item in the cube without unpacking the whole thing.
- Do I need a different cube for every day?
- No. Organizing by category (e.g., all t-shirts in one, all pants in another) is much more efficient than by day, as it gives you more flexibility if you change your mind about an outfit.
