How to pack clothes without wrinkles
To avoid wrinkles, use the bundle-wrapping method or place your clothes inside individual dry-cleaning plastic bags. These techniques reduce friction and prevent deep creases caused by folding.
- Use the bundle method. Layer your clothing items in a stack, starting with the longest/heaviest items like jackets or trousers on the outside. Place a soft item (like a T-shirt) in the center as a core, then wrap the other items around it to prevent hard creases.
- Use the plastic bag trick. Place each formal shirt or dress inside a dry-cleaning garment bag. The plastic prevents the fabric from rubbing against itself, which is the primary cause of static and wrinkles during transit.
- Pack tight to minimize movement. Your suitcase should be full enough that clothes don't shift around. Use compression cubes or soft items like socks and underwear to fill empty gaps, keeping everything stationary.
- Immediate unpacking. As soon as you arrive, hang your clothes in the bathroom. Turn on a hot shower for 10 minutes to create steam, which will naturally relax any remaining fabric fibers.
- Should I roll or fold clothes?
- Rolling is better for casual wear like T-shirts and jeans to save space, but folding using the bundle method is superior for dress shirts and trousers to avoid wrinkles.
- Does tissue paper help?
- Yes, placing a sheet of acid-free tissue paper between layers of delicate fabric adds an extra layer of protection against creases.
