Navigating Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for Safari Connections

Most safari travelers transit from international arrivals to Terminal 1 or Wilson Airport for domestic bush flights. You must allow at least 4 hours between flights if switching airports, and 3 hours if connecting within NBO.

Clear immigration and customs. Complete your eTA online before departure. On arrival, follow signs for 'Arrivals.' Expect a 30-60 minute wait at immigration. Once through, collect your bags and clear customs.
Transfer to Wilson Airport (WIL). If your safari flight leaves from Wilson, head to the pre-paid taxi desk outside the arrivals hall. Do not use random touts. Use official Kenatco taxis or book a private transfer with your safari operator. The drive takes 45-90 minutes depending on Nairobi traffic.
Transfer to Terminal 1 for domestic flights. If your bush flight departs from NBO, you must clear security at the terminal entrance. Note that domestic flights often depart from Terminal 1D or the specialized domestic apron, which may require a short shuttle ride.
