Planning Your South Korea Cherry Blossom Trip

Time your visit for the last week of March through the first week of April to catch the peak bloom. Base yourself in Seoul for city festivities and Jeju Island or Gyeongju for historical scenery, booking all accommodation at least 4 months in advance.

  1. Track the bloom forecast. The Korea Meteorological Administration releases official forecasts in late February. Bookmark the 'Visit Korea' website to track bloom dates, which move north from Jeju Island to Seoul over a 2-week period.
  2. Book domestic transport early. If you plan to travel between cities, book KTX train tickets on the Korail website exactly 30 days before your travel date. Seats sell out within hours during peak blossom season.
  3. Secure accommodation in transit hubs. Stay near Myeong-dong in Seoul or near the Gyeongju bus terminal. These areas offer the best public transport access, allowing you to reach blossom spots at sunrise before the crowds arrive.
  4. Plan for early morning shoots. Popular spots like Yeouido Park in Seoul or the Daereungwon Tomb Complex in Gyeongju get packed by 10:00 AM. Arrive by 7:30 AM to get photos without hundreds of people in the background.
Are the blooms guaranteed?
No. Weather changes can delay or shorten the bloom. Always keep your itinerary flexible by 3-4 days if possible.
Is it crowded?
Extremely. During peak week, top spots will be shoulder-to-shoulder with local students and tourists. Start your day before 8:00 AM.
